The Navprerna Initiative: Children hold hands with Children!
Navprerna is a simple idea that has taken root and flowered in the last 18 years, and we believe has changed the lives of many children.
In the year 2002 students of the ‘WE CARE’ Club of Navrachana School decided to engage with the children from nearby hutment colonies by inviting them to the School every Thursday. It was an exercise in empathy and sharing, to eat a snack together, share stories, discuss hygiene, improve literacy and such like; very soon the members of the club realized that coming to Navrachana once a week was the highlight in the lives of these children.
Could they come more often? Could they come every day? Empathy has its way of finding solutions. During the interaction with the School Management one of the Navrachana students spontaneously remarked- “Ma’am, most of our visiting friends cannot write beyond their names in Gujarati, can they not come to Navrachana every day and learn like we do”.
The result was Navprerna. It was started on Children’s Day, November 14, 2002 with funding from Navrachana Education Society and academic and infrastructural support from Navrachana School, Sama.
- Navprerna is affiliated to the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), New Delhi.
- Provides holistic and quality education using the same infrastructure as that of Navrachana School, Sama- classrooms, labs, playgrounds, art, music rooms, dining hall, etc.
- Offers the students wholesome and filling midday snack before class.
- Offers classes from Nursery to Class X, in the Gujarati medium from 2 to 5.40 pm.
- Vocational training is available from 10 am to 1:45 pm
- Navprerna students participate with enthusiasm and confidence in the several school-level competitions that they are encouraged to take part in.
- Has qualified teachers, Navrachana alumni, students of Navrachana School, parents as well as volunteers also pitch in to teach, conduct health check-ups, take the children out to picnics and educational trips.
- Provides uniforms, shoes, socks, school bag, books and stationery.
- Focuses on health, good hygiene-awareness, and personality development
- Charges a token fee of Rs.100/- per month per child.
Re-opening
After an unforeseen and unfortunately long gap, Navprerna ( School for the underprivileged) run by Navrachana, Sama, Vadodara, started with full attendance from day 1 on the 13th of June’22..
Within 2 days of re-opening , our students received notebook sets to begin this year’s academic journey,from our ever helpful and vigilant donor, Shri Deep Sitlani , his respected parents and Vedha Sitlani , ( a former Navrachnaite).
They came personally to distribute the notebooks to our children.

Achievements
- Some Navprerna students have continued their education from other schools and successfully completed Class XII with scholarships from Navrachana parents.
- A few students, many of them girls, have joined M S University, SNDT University, Methodist Technical Institute and so on for further studies.
- Others are placed in jobs in industry, commercial establishments, beauty parlors, etc.
- In 2011-12, Navprerna teachers were invited by L&T to train teachers in their CSR initiative in Navodit Vidyalaya in Anakhol village.
- On Teacher’s Day 2012, Ms. Parul Bhatt, a Navprerna teacher was felicitated by the Lions Club International Foundation and presented with an award upholding “Teaching a noble act of excellence in service”.
- During Navratri 2012, the Navprerna team won the Sanskrit Garba award in the competition organized by Aurobindo Ashram, Vadodara.
- On Teacher’s Day 5th September’2013, Ms. Raksha Sisodia (Incharge- Navprerna) was felicitated by the Lions Club International Foundation and presented with an award upholding “સ્વપ્ન શિલ્પી- (શિક્ષક-સમાજ શિલ્પી)”.
- On Teacher’s Day 5th September’2015 Ms. Ms. Raksha Sisodia (Incharge- Navprerna) and Ms. Geeta Vakil (Vocational Coordinator) were felicitated by Rotary Club Sayajinagari, Vadodara and presented with an award.
- On Teacher’s Day 5th September’2016 Ms. Samta Trivedi, Navprerna teacher was felicitated by the Rotary Club Sayajinagari, Vadodara and presented with an award
- Navprerna students participated with enthusiasm and confidence in all the school-level competitions that they are encouraged to take part in.
- Incharge, Ms. Raksha Sisodia was awarded ‘The Asian Education Award 2020’ for her contribution to the Education Community.

All monetary donations to Navprerna are exempt under 80(G) of the IT Act.
